Our personal decisions to own property in Ranchos de Placitas — judging from the dearth of Real Estate signs and the longevity of many residents — seems to have been a good one for us all. Our property values have increased, compliance with the Covenants is high, and we have dependable, clean, affordable, and abundant water. To better assure our benefits continue, however, it is essential that we are aware of concerns in time to deal with them proactively. Hence, one value of the brief.
I’m Tim McIntire, the newly appointed volunteer Editor of the brief, committed with our Editorial Team (names below) to bring you regularly both current information on Units 4, 5 / 6, and 7, as well as research and thought pieces on more global issues that face us. Recently you received Armon McPherson’s brief on the Water Board’s decisions that are always top priorities, and soon you will receive Craig Kendall’s summary of some info on light pollution in Sandoval County.
While my wife and I have thirty plus years here, we are hardly among the longest-lived among our neighbors. Our demographics tend toward those of us older Baby Boomers who can afford to buy and maintain properties that are above average cost, and who are educated, experienced professionals and business folks, many of whom are retired. Fortunately, I suspect we all delight in the beautiful sight of younger individuals and families choosing Ranchos as home. We intend to serve both newer and vintage residents, informing all on a regular basis.
This year, our RdPPOA Board has attracted vibrant leadership that has demonstrated its eagerness to listen and give us voice on issues that concern us all. While the Board exists to serve the membership, our strength is in YOUR being aware and caring. It is neither difficult nor time consuming to do so. Paying attention by being a member of our Association does the trick.
There are two hundred and sixty one properties that comprise our community. While some of us own more than one property and some owners live elsewhere, nevertheless, nearly two hundred of us are eligible for Association membership. We strive for one hundred percent active membership and are exceptionally thankful for those who have assumed leadership roles. Simply put, if we all participate, the lifting is light and the benefits are many.

Finally, understand that every voice and every issue is important to us and for us all. Our opportunity is to share with each other what we see as useful information for members of our community. It is not ours individually to solve any one issue or be the sole authority on items of interest. Our Editorial Team will listen and structure helpful ways to address all issues. Unfortunately, while stemming the annoying and destructive forays of home-intruding ants, burrowing and rafter ravaging squirrels, or wire-eating and hood-nesting pack rats will remain endless campaigns, we can otherwise confidently enhance our lives in this beautiful community.
